Our Beliefs
| As a church we don’t have one distinct belief. – Although probably most people think of adult baptism as the main Baptist distinction, Baptists are not the only Christians to do adult baptism. We are not the only church that believe in a leadership elected by the members or that all believers can both talk to God and hear from him either. We believe a combination of things, some of which will be shared by other baptist churches and other will be shared by other churches. |
| Jesus is Lord. This is the distinctive confession of faith. As individuals and as churches, Baptists seek to make Jesus Lord of every area of their lives. |
| The authority of the Bible. We believe that the Bible shows us God’s way for living. As believers, we seek to root our lives in the truth of God’s word. |
| Believers’ baptism.
In the New Testament we see baptism as a way for adult believers (people old enough to understand what they are doing),to make a public show of there faith. Adult baptism is done by fully immersing someone in water, this is a sign that they are dying to there own thoughts and as they are lifted again out of the water they rise into a new life in Jesus – for more info see Believers Baptism |
| The Church. We believe the church is a community of believers who meet together for worship, witness and help each other grow as followers of Jesus. |
| We have a relationship with God. As christians, God calls us into a relationship with him. This is a two way thing, we can talk to God and he also talks to us. This is called ‘the priesthood of all believers’. |
| Meeting together. Not only is it important for us to meet on a weekly basis with our local church, we believe it is also important for us to meet on a regional, national and international level. Here we can get support and fellowship from our wider family of brothers and sisters in Christ. In the Bible, We see church that churches should not live in isolation from one another but rather be ‘inter-dependent’. |
| Telling others. We believe that each Christian has a duty to share their faith with others. The Bible tells us ‘make disciples of all nations’. It is not enough for us simply to share the gospel and make Christians (although this is hugely important), we need to make disciples. This means we need to help each other grow. If you are not yet a Christian or have been a Christian for 100 years we all need to grow. |
